Deciding on Residing - Our Latest Project On Delavan Lake, Stebnitz Builders, Delavan, Wisconsin

The decision was tough at first.

Should the house be power-washed and re-stained or should they tear off the cedar and replace it with another product - a product that will last longer and require less maintenance? One thing was for sure, our clients knew something had to be done, and done now!

The Reeds have been clients of ours for nearly 30 years, now and they knew that when it was time to do something with that siding, they were going to rely on the expertise of Stebnitz Builders. That was the easy part.

The hard part was, which solution should they go with?

After several discussions with Dan Stebnitz and our Production Manager, Mike Jeffrey, the decision was made that it would be a wiser choice to replace their old cedar siding, soffit and fascia with another product that doesn't require the maintenance cedar requires.

The Reeds decided that they were only going to do this once and it was going to be done right, so they went with Louisiana-Pacific’s SmartSide® products which deliver all the warmth and beauty of traditional wood, plus the durability and workability of engineered wood. Their SmartGuard® manufacturing process actually improves upon nature, creating products that are engineered for strength, performance and protection against fungal decay and termites. The LP SmartSide® family features four distinct product collections, all backed by an industry-leading 5/50 Year Transferable Limited Warranty.

Here's a great video tour of the LP plant in Tomahawk, WI, showing exactly how this product is made and why we love to use it so much!

They also chose to have their siding finished with a Diamond-KoteTM finish, which increases their fade warranty from a 5-year to a 30-year fade warranty.

Our crew of Scott Bray, Ryan Hibl and James Krahn are hard at work removing the cedar from the house and prepping it for its new look.

After it’s completed, the Reeds will have a home with a fresh, new look that will last longer and be more maintenance-free than the old cedar siding they used to have.

Stay tuned to the blog for a follow-up on how the house is coming along through the process.
